Great post. The Giving Tree is one of my favourite stories.
The tree gives without wanting anything in return, it doesn't try or need it just does, without judgement.

I think pets are like this giving and recieving love with no sense of guilt or unworthiness or feeling they need to give anything in return.

Good point, Andrew. It is only humans that feel as though any significant degree of giving is a sacrifice.

If animals, plants and trees could speak, they would not have the words, give and sacrifice, in their language. These are all just natural behaviors that do not require labels.
